What will therapy be like?

  Therapy is a chance for you to talk through your worries and problems with a trained professional. It is quite different from any other kind of conversation as the psychologist is trained to hear what you are saying and remains non-judgmental.  This process helps you find perspective and work out what to do next.  The process helps you find perspective and work out what to do next.   

What will I be asked about?

Hopefully you will take the chance to have a quick call beforehand to check out whether my practice is the best fit for you. 


You will then get an intake questionnaire so that a lot of the background can be covered before we meet and the time we have together is truly yours. 


During the sessions, there might be a range of questions that I will want to explore with you, but you should not feel in anyway pressured to answer anything that might make you feel uncomfortable. I use my knowledge of theories and therapeutic techniques to help you understand and cope with thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in relation to your difficulties.

  Therapy can help people be more aware of some of the patterns they get into that keep them ‘stuck’ or trapped in a vicious cycle. The benefits of therapy result from having a special space in which you can talk freely and explore your feelings and thoughts with the help of skillful questions.

How much do sessions cost?

  Individual therapy sessions with me

 (Dr Renaud) and other Clinical Psychologists are charged at £95 per session, payable online by bank transfer or at the end of each session by cash or debit/credit card.  If your therapy is funded by an insurance company or employee support company, the charges will be set directly with the company.

If after this, you wish to proceed, we will make an appointment to meet with you to discuss your therapy in Dunfermline at our private practice to take things further. One session may be enough, but if more are needed, we can schedule these to meet your needs.


If you have health insurance (e.g. AXA PPP Healthcare, PruHealth, AVIVA), it may be useful to check to see if your insurer covers psychological therapy. We look forward to helping.  


Are the therapy sessions confidential?

All information you provide during our therapy sessions, including your name, address and GP, and everything you discuss during therapy is totally confidential. Unless, at any time you tell me something that indicates that you are in personal danger from others or are in danger of harming yourself or somebody else.  If so, I have a professional duty to inform your GP. Sometimes, particularly if your therapy is funded by an insurance company, we may be asked to provide a report on the progress of therapy. This will focus on the work we have done together and how you have responded to this; it will NOT go into personal details that are not relevant to what the insurance company needs to know so they can approve on-going treatment.
